Description

The GT40 MkII that beat Ferrari at Le Mans, rebuilt as a serious Technic build.

LEGO’s 42223 recreates the 1966 Ford GT40 MkII in the black-and-silver livery worn by the car that took outright victory at that year’s 24 Hours of Le Mans. At 793 pieces, this is an adult Technic project built to reward the process as much as the finished shelf piece — brick-built headlights, a metallic gold wheel finish, and panel lines that hold together as a genuine scale replica rather than a simplified toy silhouette.

Every panel on the model does something. A control knob on the roof steers the front wheels through direct mechanical linkage. Both doors open. Press the lever by the passenger side and the front compartment lifts. Round the back, the engine cover opens on its own restrained linkage to reveal a fully brick-built V8, mechanically connected through to the rear wheel rather than sitting there as static detail.

Finished, it holds a genuine 29cm of shelf presence — long enough to read as a real car in miniature, not a desk ornament. This is a set for someone who already knows what a GT40 looks like and wants to own the mechanics behind it, not just the shape.
